Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Visit to Bransby Horse Rescue Centre

We like to give our residents’ varied outings but this trip to Bransby was extra special for our resident Anne.

It had been a little while since she had decide to go on a trip but animals are passion for her, especially horses.  Previously whilst studying for a degree, Anne had written and published a thesis on horses.

Birthday celebrations

We love to celebrate our residents, their families and any special occasion. We had cause to do all three when we celebrated Yvonne’s 96th birthday. The event was made even more special by the fact that four generations of her family came to visit.

Other members of Yvonne’s family live in Italy so were touched to see photos of the big day and her blowing out the candles on her cake.

Remembrance Sunday

On Remembrance Sunday we commemorated by observing the two minutes silence and then hosting a coffee afternoon for Veterans and their families. It was a lovely afternoon with our residents sharing stories, showing uniforms and enjoying coffee and cakes.
The following day we went to Age UK for breakfast baps, observation of the two minutes silence then wonderful entertainment from the Blighty Belles who sang war era songs.

Walk through a landscape

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.

Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.

Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Who doesn’t like to eat cake and help a good cause? We certainly like to!

Our coffee morning was a great success raising well over £300.

The team really pulled together to make delicious cakes and donate wonderful raffle prizes.

Sharon, in our Housekeeping team, won the ‘Guess the weight of the cake’ competition, winning the fabulous strawberry and Oreo cake that Emma our chef had made. We were all a little jealous!

Our residents certainly loved meeting the visitors who joined us and the support of the community.

Eleanor Sings

It was a cold, wet and grey Monday, but this did not stop us enjoying ourselves dancing and singing to the amazing voice of Eleanor.

She brought so much fun, entertainment and happiness to our home.

Her wide repertoire ensured there were songs everyone knew and could join in with, we had a ball!
