Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Our very first Memory Cafe

We were delighted to hold our first memory café this month, residents, family and staff had a wonderful time, residents enjoyed various activities including painting, completing jigsaws and creating sculptures out of sand.

Residents reaped the benefits of chatting and relaxing while having delicious refreshments and cake prepared by the kitchen.

We will be holding our Memory Café every other month, on the second Thursday at 2:30pm it is open for all to come along and meet others who are supporting friends and family living with dementia, or who think a loved one may have dementia.

Fizz @3pm

This month we had our first Fizz@3, we enjoyed socialising with each other while having our favourite tipples. Residents enjoyed chatting and sharing stories with each other. It lifted everyone’s spirits. Our activity coordinator Donna went around the whole home so nobody missed out. We look forward to doing this on the first Wednesday of each month.

Trip to Bomber Command

We had a fabulous morning visiting the Bomber Command Centre. We spent our time learning about the history of Bomber command, the people who served and remembered all those who died in WWII. We had a peaceful walk around the gardens seeing all the memorial tributes. This was followed by a cup of tea in the café where we reminisced about where we were when the war was declared and the different things they could remember.

Lincolnshire Mobile Library Visit

To celebrate World Book Lovers day we decided to invite in the Lincolnshire Mobile Library Van to our home. Residents loved choosing their books to read and have signed up to ‘books and more to your door’, where they will have books and audio books delivered to their door every month. Our residents were over the moon as they could have books that suited their personal needs, whether it was in larger print or books they could listen too. The residents are looking forward to receiving books every month to read.

Virtual Tour of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

History of Wall's icecream

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.
