Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home

Musical Moments

Residents and guests enjoyed a morning of fun with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local entertainer Joanne from Musical Moments performed a selection of remembrance themed classics including We’ll Meet Again and Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag and Smile, Smile, Smile.

Joanne visited residents in bedrooms with her musical repertoire before joining our regular Thursday coffee morning to entertain residents.  Residents in bedrooms joined in with the singing, and clapped along and thoroughly enjoyed their musical visitor.  Everyone sang along at the coffee morning and clapped to the familiar songs also.  The hospitality team at the home provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests to enjoy during the visit.

Walk through a landscape

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.

Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.

Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!

Spooktacular Halloween

Our residents always love a visit from local children so on Halloween, we organised a spooktacular visit from Red Kite Nursery. The children visited residents to trick or treat, much to the delight of our residents. Their costumes were fabulous!

In the afternoon we had a spooky Halloween afternoon tea, complete with a history of Halloween, Halloween riddles and a Halloween quiz.

Bonfire celebrations at Thistle Hill

Thistle Hills’ annual Bonfire Night was spectacular once again!  The success of the event was a whole home team effort.

Steven, our amazing head of maintenance, was in charge of the pyrotechnics.  Home General Manager Mandy and Resident Jean made the ‘Guy’.  From the roaring fire through to the final firework the evening was spectacular and enjoyed by residents, visitors and staff alike.

Festival of Lights

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful day on Friday, 1st November, as they celebrated the Hindu festival of Diwali, also known as the 'festival of lights'. They engaged in creating colorful patterned rangoli and lighting 'diyas', small oil lamps that are kindled to represent the victory of good over evil. Diwali pays tribute to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and the lamps are believed to guide Lakshmi into people's homes.

Head chef Kamile whipped up an array of traditional Indian dishes, including a selection of hearty curries, spicy samosas, crunchy bhajis, and poppadum's accompanied by lime pickle and various chutneys, topped off with traditional Indian sweets like laddoo and barfi for the residents' delight.

Residents enjoy World Opera Day

Ball gowns and arias were the order of the day at Thistle Hill Care Centre in Knaresborough where residents were keen to get involved in World Opera Day.

Staff and residents at Thistle Hill Care Centre decided to dress to impress as they welcomed opera singer, Emma Carrington to perform a selection of arias from famous well-known Operas.  It was a wonderful moving performance which transported residents back to a time of opulence in history.
