Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Thistle Hill Life Enrichment Team
Ursula and Katie make up our fantastic Activities Team here at Thistle Hill.
They develop and oversee an active living programme for each resident, which encourages mobility, social contact, independence and fun. Each and every person can thrive and live to their full potential with no day ever being the same. They bring great enthusiasm and spark to the home and have one passion, which is to deliver an amazing and vibrant activities programme to cater to all tastes and abilities.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home
Mother's Day
Residents celebrated Mother’s Day with visits and video calls from family members near and far.
Staff arranged an afternoon of celebrations with live entertainment from singer Ukulele Henry. Head chef, Ewelina prepared a special afternoon tea to mark the day.
General Manager, Mandy Scott said: “We’ve all had a really lovely day. It has been so good to see family members who were able to visit in person and to have video calls with those who are further away. Our residents enjoyed a fantastic lunch and then a delicious afternoon tea prepared by our brilliant chefs. Days like these are so special.”
London Ladies
As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.
Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.
Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.
Bingo Bonanza
Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as they teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.
Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.
Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Live Opera Performance
Today we were delighted to welcome back mezzo-soprano opera singer Emma Carrington.
Emma previously performed in a variety of venues including Royal Opera House, Scottish Opera and Welsh Opera.
We had a pleasure to enjoy arias from world famous musicals in English, French and Italian and many of our residents knew the lyrics in all three languages. Another example of amazing impact music has on memory!
Barchester's Big Bingo Bonanza
Residents of Thistle Hill got very competitive as we joined other Barchester homes across the country for a Barchester Big Bingo Bonanza.
We've connected via YouTube and we were able to follow live updates and chat with other Homes.
This time we didn't make it to the national tops but we had our in-house winners and everyone had a good time!
Big Bingo Bonanza
We joined fellow keen dabbers from over 250 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to compete in the biggest game of bingo Barchester has ever seen!
The inaugural Barchester Big Bingo Bonanza took place on 27th February 2024 when Thistle Hill got super competitive and took on its sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital was a dab hand at bingo. It was eyes down for a full house as the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.
General Manager, Mandy Scott said: “We’ve got some real bingo fanatics at our home, we are very competitive - our residents love taking part in anything where winning is involved, you could hear a pin drop in here when we were all playing.”
