Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Amber Newband
My name is Amber Newband and I’m excited to be joining Thistle Hill as the new Activities Lead. I previously worked as a teacher’s assistant at a local school, where I gained experience supporting learning and engaging with Children.
I’m looking forward to bringing that passion into my work here and creating meaningful, enjoyable activities for everyone.
In my spare time, I enjoy working in my art studio and painting with watercolours.
I’m really looking forward to getting to know and working with the residents and families. If you see me around, please feel free to say hello!
Celebrating life at Thistle Hill Care Home

Dominoes
Every Wednesday, our Farnham dining room transforms into a hub of friendly rivalry for our weekly Dominoes Club. This session has become a non-negotiable highlight of the week, with residents always double-checking the schedule to ensure their midweek match is ready to go.
The atmosphere is always brilliant—filled with non-stop laughter, lively catching up, and the occasional tongue-in-cheek joke about "cheating" that keeps everyone smiling.
We recently had a spectacular performance from Hazel, who may have set a new house record! She managed to win a staggering 8 out of 11 games in a single morning. Whether it’s a tactical masterclass or just a chance for a good natter, the passion our residents show for the game is wonderful to see.
Harp and happiness
On 12th February, our Ripley Lounge was filled with the beautiful sounds of the harp and plenty of laughter for our Harp and Happiness session. Residents, families, and friends gathered together to enjoy a wonderful live-streamed performance by the talented Marian O’Toole.
The music truly brought the room to life, sparking a massive sing-along that had everyone involved. From the classic "Sweet Caroline" to fantastic Beatles and Celtic medleys, the energy was infectious. Malcolm blew us all away by showcasing his impressive vocal skills, and we discovered that Hazel is a secret music expert—she knew every single word to every song!
It was a heart-warming afternoon that reminded us all how much joy a simple melody can bring to our home.
Tis' the season to be jolly!
Thistle Hill got in the Christmas spirit by throwing a festive party for residents. The homes Christmas party was in full swing with festive foods, music and games. Residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s chef, Ewelina.
Operations Manager, Nikki Mould said: “Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and our fantastic residents love to get festive so we’ve pulled out all the stops. It is so lovely to see them all getting into the Christmas spirit, it’s definitely my favourite time of year.”

Festive Musical Fun
We were delighted to welcome Natalie Rivers to Thistle Hill as she wowed our residents, relatives and young guests from the Red Kite Nursery with a stunning debut performance.
Natalie's delivered a stunning selection of songs from ABBA classics to festive favourites.
This was the perfect afternoon to launch the homes festivities this Christmas season.

Happy Halloween
It was a day filled full of treats and no tricks for our residents and their loved ones as we celebrated Halloween. This morning, residents of our three houses enjoyed a themed coffee morning filled with themed treats, refreshments and plenty of hearty chatter amongst our residents.
The treats didn't stop there, as this afternoon we welcomed Joseph Braithwaite on his debut at Thistle Hill as he dazzled our residents with a selection of hits from the likes of Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra and Elvis. A huge “Thank You” goes out to Ewelina and her brilliant team in the kitchen for keeping the party going with a stunning array of sweet and savoury treats.

Artistic joy
One of our dining rooms in Thistle Hill was recently transformed into a vibrant art studio for our very first Paint Your Way session. This week, our talented residents gathered for a "very fun and colourful hour" of creative expression.
The session provides a relaxed space for residents to explore their artistic talents. The results were truly heart-warming: Heather, who hadn't painted in years, shared that the experience "made a girl very happy," while Hazel produced some lovely portraits. Sheila also joined the fun, experimenting with bold colours and textures to create a unique masterpiece.
Everyone involved left feeling incredibly proud of their creations. We believe these social activities are vital for fostering a sense of community and purpose. We are already looking forward to our next session.

Intergenerational fun
The children from Red Kite Nursery joined us for a special visitor this week. We welcomed Rob Hutchinson Magic into the home to put on a magnificent magic show.
Residents and children gathered as Rob performed magic tricks and created balloon animals for all. A huge thank you to Rob for coming.
