Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Zoe Aldea

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Zoe and I am the Activities Lead at Wadhurst Manor.

I used to work with veterans for the Royal British Legion, and as an Art Studio Lead for a wonderful charity that built a village for people with learning disabilities.

I believe in the healing power of art, I feel strongly about building confidence and  the wellness of our residents. My hobbies include Asian art and philosophy, acupuncture, yoga and martial arts. I believe art is a bridge that unites everyone no matter the race, beliefs or religion.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy

Residents were full of song during out latest music therapy session with Ryan. There was lots of clapping along and even a little dancing.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

Residents celebrated the Year of the Dog with a display by Ditto Dogs. It was wonderful to see their dancing dog display and to talk to their owners and, of course, stroke the dogs after. We look forward to seeing the whole team for a display in the garden this summer.

National Storytelling Week

What a wonderful time we had when we visited Sacred Heart School as part of National Story Telling week. We started off by watching year 2 acting out and reciting Little Red Riding Hood. Then the year 1 children split up into groups, with one resident joining each group to look at and read their favourite stories with them.

It was so fun to watch everyone smiling and laughing. We then met back together for refreshments and all recited nursery rhymes. We hope that this was the first of many such visits!

Out to the Theatre

We were kindly invited to watch Stonegate Amateur Dramatic's Society's (SADS) dress rehearsal for Oliver. Seven residents, some accompanied by their families, went to watch the show. Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed it, with one relative commenting that it was as good as anything they had seen in the West End! We would all like to thank SADS for their invitation and hope that some of the cast will come in and sing for us one day.

Drum Workshop

Wadhurst Manor residents were treated to an afternoon of fun when musician, Jo, came in with over 20 drums. After a short talk and demonstration the fun began; residents tapped out rhythms together and also listened to and recalled different beats.

Burns Night

Despite a slight hitch in our Burns Night celebrations, they turned out to be our best yet, with Robbie Burns' poems been read out by residents and guests alike. Everyone then joined in with a toast before tucking into haggis, neeps and tatties, which were washed down with a wee dram of whiskey, followed by some Scottish dancing.
