Activities at Chestnut Gardens Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Rikardas Cirunas

Activities Co Ordinator

Hello, my name is Rikardus and I am the Activities Co-ordinator at Chestnut Gardens Care Home.

I have worked for Barchester for five years and was so excited to be part of such a excellent team at this beautiful home.

Every day I look forward to supporting our residents in living a full and enriched life and especially enjoy the outdoor activities that we arrange to the local attractions, even if the weather can be unpredictable at times.

We also hold loads of varied internal activities so everyone is catered for and the musicians and therapy animals are a very big hit.

Life at Chestnut Gardens Care Home

A year of dedication, compassion, and excellence! Today, we celebrate our amazing manager Gayane Selimyan for completing one year at Chestnut Gardens. Your leadership and unwavering commitment have made a difference in the lives of many. Thank you for all that you do!

A Great Start to the Day

Getting some early morning fresh air, a change of scenery and a hearty breakfast really is a great start to any day. Some of our residents that embrace an earlier start had a great time at Lord Roberts on the Green, a hidden gem on The Webb Estate, Upper Woodcote Village. It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but the big question is full English or yogurt and fresh berries?

Getting Blooming Creative

We love fresh flowers here at Chestnut Gardens. They bring joy to us all with their fragrant aromas and beautiful colours. Flowers stimulate the senses of smell, sight and touch and in doing so can also trigger memories, encourage reminiscing and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

Aside from the benefits of flower arranging for our minds, cutting and arranging flowers gently engages your joints, and helps to preserve motor function. It can also help improve dexterity and muscle memory by engaging finer movements in the hand and promote a mind-body connection.

Daily Aperitifs with Friends

Sherry and food are a match made in heaven so a daily glass before mealtimes not only tempts and cleanses the palate but it is also a great social thing for our residents here at Chestnut Gardens. Meeting up for a tipple just before mealtimes sets the mood for an enjoyable time and connected experience.

A Day at the Races

We all like to be heard and knowing our residents really does make a difference in being able to help them to continue to live their life as they want to by still doing the things that they have previously enjoyed throughout their lives.

Ahead of Cheltenham Festival recently, our resident, John who is an avid fan of horse racing, expressed a wish to go to the races. He fancied a flutter with the excitement of real life action.

So, with support from a great team and our mini bus, off we went with John to Plumpton Race Course. Fresh air and fun before he got glued to the TV for a few days to follow the Cheltenham action.

Pamper Time

Who doesn't love to be pampered and feel a million dollars. Having our own hair salon and nail bar means our residents can take full advantage of being preened and polished when ever they like.
