Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Carers Week

Carers Week is an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful work of carers everywhere.

Fountains residents and staff wanted to recognise carers for all of their hard work, and give them an experience to remember. We did this by organising a day of relaxation and Reiki treatments for them.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing and wellbeing. Our wonderful Reiki Therapist Emma offered to help and together we organised soothing half-hour sessions for each carer to enjoy.

The invitation was extended beyond our own Care Team at Fountains to Carers Trust Solihull and other carers in the community caring for loved ones.

It really was a great opportunity for carers to relax for a while, unwind and be taken care of. Thank you so much Emma for helping make our Carers Week so special!

In addition a ‘thank you’ card and a box of chocolates was presented to all carers for their hard work and commitment.  Fountains carers work so very hard and we are so grateful for all that they do.

We look forward to celebrating the work of our Care Team and further afield again next year.

Al Fresco dining

Spending time with your friends is so important and there’s no better excuse than socialising over a lovely meal.

At Fountains care home it’s no different and today was perfect “al fresco” weather so our residents came together to dine in the sunshine.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal and on the menu today was homemade Cream of Celery Soup to start, a tasty home made Steak and Kidney Pie with a Sherry trifle for dessert.

It was delicious but what was most important was our residents enjoyed it together

Volunteers week

Volunteers Week 1st-7th June is a time to say thanks for the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.

Fountains wanted to recognise the volunteers who have been working so hard to run the vaccination centres and ensure everyone’s safety in the process.

Lorraine Shannon (Home Services Advisor) delivered homemade vanilla buttercream cupcakes for all the volunteers to enjoy at Monkspath Surgery Solihull Healthcare Partnership.

A big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers in the community and to our super talented kitchen team for making the delicious cakes.

National Fish & Chip Day

Fountains residents and staff celebrated National Fish & Chip Day with a fabulous meal in the garden whilst making the most of the glorious sunny weather.

Our wonderful kitchen team created a delicious spread for us with a variety of fresh fish that included haddock, cod and pollock. There were cones of fish and chips for everyone; all served the traditional way with a squeeze of lemon, tartar sauce and mushy peas.

It was a delight to be sitting out, chatting in the sunshine with a lovely meal and a glass of wine. The perfect Friday afternoon treat for us all!

Families celebrate in the gardens

Fountains residents and staff are delighted to welcome families back to our gardens for outdoor visits.

Today, our resident Margaret celebrated her birthday with her nearest and dearest.

Our fabulous kitchen team organised an afternoon tea; with a selection of sandwiches, refreshments and a beautiful birthday cake too, which Margaret was thrilled with.

Happy Birthday Margaret! Love from your Fountains family.

World Bee Day

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed getting busy in celebration of World ‘Bee Day’ 2021. It’s a day to highlight the importance of bees and vital role they play in the environment.

We started by heading out into our sensory garden to plant some lavender. Everyone took pride in adding some extra colour to our garden, and we can’t wait to see the bees enjoying it!

We then headed into the kitchen for a ‘Cooking With Honey’ class where we made a delicious Pineapple & Honey Upside-Down cake. The sweet aromas of honey and baking filled the home and had us all looking forward to the sampling - which was delicious.

After that we got ‘crafty’ assembling our very own Fountains Bee House, which we’ve placed in our garden ready, for the guests to discover it.

To end the day, we relaxed and enjoyed a video on The History Of Bee Keeping. It was great to see these busy little insects in their natural habitat and learn all about the importance of keeping them safe.

Happy World Bee Day everyone!
