Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Senior Health and Fitness Day

Fountains residents and staff very much enjoyed getting active for our Senior Health & Fitness day.

To celebrate the occasion we hosted a special day of virtual events for our friends in the community and in other Barchester Homes too.

The sessions included: a Wellness Talk and Thai Chi demonstration from Julia Mitchell; a discussion about the benefits of Reiki with a demonstration from Emma Monk; and an afternoon of armchair dance exercises presented by ‘Be Well With Lisa’. We then relaxed a little with a ‘self’ hand-massage tutorial too.

It was all great fun for our residents and members of the community, and a lovely way to learn about the importance of wellness, mindfulness and keeping fit and healthy.

Thank you to all who joined us for such a wonderful day. And a very special ‘thank you’ goes out to our wonderful teachers/instructors for making the day so rewarding and enjoyable.

Chelsea Flower Show week

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed a master class from Chelsea based florist ‘Blooming Haus’ to celebrate Chelsea Flower Show Week .

We took part in the fun online flower arranging class and learnt so much.  Firstly we  learnt how to design our own displays, understanding how to organise the flowers into heights and colours to achieve the most beautiful display of flowers.

We also learnt how to make our own plant food too which was so interesting and useful to know.

Our residents made some wonderful arrangements and had the most fun learning about the art of floristry.

We will be entering our displays into a Facebook competition, judged by the professionals with a chance to win £100 Vouchers so wish us luck

A Rock 'n' Roll birthday celebration

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed an evening of rock and roll to celebrate our resident John on his birthday.

Our fantastic kitchen team created John’s favourite - a delicious chocolate birthday cake which John was delighted with & everyone enjoyed with a glass of wine.

No celebration would be complete without our dancing duo putting on a fabulous performance which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.  It was a wonderful evening shared with friends.

“Happy birthday John” from your Fountains family!

Dementia Action Week

Fountains care home hosted a virtual presentation by Dementia Connect, from Alzheimer’s Society as part of Dementia Action Week.

It was an excellent presentation by Kate Sweet (Services Manager) and despite a few technology issues and losing a few along the way it was very well attended with a varied audience from business owners to family members caring for a loved one living with dementia.

We learnt about the range of support available, how Dementia Connect can help you, how to access the support as well as learning how we can all get involved and support the National Campaign.

Should anyone like a copy of the PowerPoint presentation then please email fountains.reception@barchester.com.

To find out more about Dementia Connect call 0333 140 3456.

1 year Anniversary marked

A year ago today we welcomed our first resident to our Memory Lane Community at Fountains care home

It wasn’t quite the year we imagined but we’re delighted to celebrate the occasion and have welcomed many more residents along the way since.

We’re so looking forward to throwing a 1st birthday party in July (restrictions permitting) but until then our VIP is Flo who was the first to walk the red carpet.

The sun has shone for us today so a trip to Elmdon Park felt very fitting to mark the occasion.

National Biscuit Day

Fountains residents and staff had a great time taking part in a delicious baking activity as part of celebrating National Biscuit Day!

Everyone enjoyed getting busy in the kitchen, mixing the ingredients, creating and baking our own homemade cookies. As the biscuits baked, the whole home was filled with a delicious aroma that had us all looking forward to the tasting.

Once they were out of the oven and cooled down, we enjoyed them with a nice cup of tea and a movie. The perfect Friday afternoon treat.
