Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Fountains Care Home

Food Collection with Shirley Lions

Another day meant another collection for Shirley Lions. Lorraine Shannon HSA for Fountains Care Home took to the streets of Shirley, Solihull to help with another food collection for The Trussel Trust to distribute to those in need.

The continued kindness of the local community is so heartwarming and Sunday’s collection saw a magnificent 937 kgs of food donated and collected.

As a club, Shirley Lions have co-ordinated and collected over 2 tonnes of food for the food bank, to date,

Fountains is so pleased to be part of such a great cause.

International Older Persons Day

Fountains teamed up with Age UK Solihull to deliver Random Acts of Kindness as part of International Day of Older Persons.

The focus of the campaign by Fountains was to draw attention to, not just to the physical health of elderly people, but their mental wellbeing also.

Home Services Advisor at Fountains Lorraine Shannon and the home’s maintenance man Harvir Gill took to the streets in their mini bus and delivered up to 20 boxed afternoon teas that had been made up by the kitchen team, along with a goody bag.

It was such a lovely day to see the pleasure these treats brought and a great way to celebrate the day which was enjoying its 30th Anniversary.

A Thank you from the Mayor of Solihull.

Fountains Care home was surprised and delighted to receive a Thank you from the Mayor of Solihull to personally thank us for our support of others during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

It was especially exciting to learn that we had been nominated by a member of a voluntary organisation that had recognised our contribution and put us forward “for great work within the local community and borough”

This is such an accolade for Fountains Care Home and we are so proud to receive this personal thanks from The Mayor. In addition we will be part of “a Solihull says thank you” display that will be on public display in the Touchwood Shopping Centre and Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre, alongside all of those that have helped during the pandemic.

Healthy Eating week 28th Sept - 4th Oct 2020

Last week was Healthy Eating Week and the aim of the week was to focus on health and promoting healthy habits.

Fountains marked the week with lots of fun activities that got everyone thinking about the importance of healthy eating.

Our residents made delicious fruit kebabs as well as enjoying a platter of fresh fruits such as passion fruit, pomegranate, fresh figs and mango, to name but a few.

They baked healthy flapjacks with dried fruits, oats and honey, which was not only fun to make but really tasty and a healthy alternative to a slice of cake.

There was creative activity also, which saw rainbow fruit and vegetable collages produced and a great discussion about the importance of eating your “5 a day”

Being active was also part of healthy eating week and our residents continued to enjoying their bi-weekly sessions of arm chair exercises.

Facebook Portal Donation

Fountains Care Home received an extremely generous donation of a Facebook Portal for residents to keep in contact with their friends and family at this difficult time.

Leading Developer Barrett and David Wilson Homes surprised Fountains Care Home with this superb gift.

The Facebook Portal makes it easy for users to video call friends and family via various social media channels, even if they don’t have a portal and it is a great alternative for us to be able to offer as well as  skype and facetime on our IPads.

Thank you for thinking of our residents and supporting them to stay connected at this unprecedented time.

Sports Day 2020

Fountains Care Home hosted their first Sports Day!

With all the lovely weather we have had, we picked a mixed day so set up inside so the day wasn’t spoilt.

Our residents and staff played a mixture of traditional games ranging from the egg and spoon race to hook a duck.

When there was a break in the weather we continued the fun outside.

There were prizes for the winners and a delicious buffet and ice creams to enjoy.

We then hosted a Facebook Live raffle with some superb prizes donated from local businesses and raised just short of £170 for Dementia UK.
