Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Roald Dahl Day 2020

September is Roald Dahl’s birth month and he would have been 103 this year if he was still alive.

We enjoyed a themed Roald Dahl day and it started with our residents making their own sweets out of colourful tissue paper just like Willy Wonka did.

We enjoyed a group reading session of James and the Giant Peach and everyone loved that.

The final fun was creating our own lava potions inspired by George’s marvellous medicine.

Everyone then deserved a treat, so we ended the day with a tasting experience of fudge mellow delight sundaes with popping candy from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.

Everyone had a lovely creative Roald Dahl day!

Last Night of the Proms 2020

Residents enjoyed The Last Night of The Proms in their cinema room with a cheese, wine and cold meat platter.

There were lots of performances and everyone enjoyed the music and ambience of the Symphony Orchestra at The Royal Albert Hall.

One resident chose to dress up for the occasion and wore her favourite hat!

The morning was spent choosing the winners and runners up in 4 different categories which was no easy decision. In addition everyone enjoying dog themed bingo, dog art and our residents made the voting cards. The chef baked a bone shaped victoria sponge, dog shaped sandwiches and chocolate bone biscuits too.

The winners and runners up were announced on a Facebook live and the winners received a dog bowl, personalised with their name. The runners up received a selection of toys with a certificate and rosette.

Food banks

Lorraine Shannon HSA for Fountains Care Home was pleased to support the food collections alongside Shirley Lions. The food donated is being taken to The Trussell Trust for distribution to families and individuals identified by Job centres via distribution points all over the region. Including Solihull.

From just two collections so far, over a tonne of food has been kindly donated by residents of Shirley as well as Asda Parkgate, Shirley.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness and thank you to Shirley Lions for co-ordinating these collections so far.

Letters of kindness

Following on from Friendship Day and our residents sending out friendship bracelets, they were delighted to receive a gift with their correspondence.

Two sisters in Redditch, Bethany and Lily, who are writing to our residents, returned the compliment and made a bookmark for one of our residents who is an avid book reader. They also sent a photo for our residents, wearing their bracelets!

It was a lovely surprise and the joy can be seen on Doreen’s face at receiving the surprise.

We are all looking forward to when we can invite the girls to Fountains Care Home and cement the beginnings of a great friendship.

National Fish & Chip Day

Fountains celebrated one of the most popular awareness days of the year with fish and chips wrapped in newspaper and served in a basket.

As the weather was pleasant our residents enjoyed their feast out on the 1st floor terrace.

As an extra treat for dessert we were delighted to welcome Mr Yummy to Fountains, who served complimentary ice creams and ice lolly’s to residents and staff.

It was so well received and it was the quietest we had all been, enjoying My Yummy’s delicious desserts!
