Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Sewaday community charity

Sewa Day visited Fountains and kindly donated an appreciation box for the care staff as well as several boxes of dates donated by the Duchess of York. The appreciation boxes have been made up by families in the community.

Fountains were extremely touched to receive the appreciation box, which was full of goodies for the staff to enjoy for all their hard work and commitment. Pictured is senior carer, Chloe Beck accepting the donation.

We were also given “Rakhi”, sacred symbols to protect our front liners which is a part of the auspicious festival of Rakksha Bandhan. This festival represents the love between brother and sister and also the duty of protection we have towards each other.

Sewa day are a community charity who spread joy in their community, amongst other projects and they certainly did just that when they visited Fountains with their kind gifts.

Thank you Sewa day!

Messages of Kindness

Our residents wanted to send out messages of kindness to the community for all their support during Covid-19. The theme was “keep calm and………….” our residents chose the message thereafter.

As our communities are named after local woodland and parks it felt fitting to leave these messages in these parks. Pictured is our lovely activity co-ordinator Esme Lloyd-Kelly placing these stones to be found by you!

We hope that these messages will bring lots of joy to our community and when you find these messages please tag us on facebook with a photo to https://m.facebook.com/BarchesterFountains/

The 1st person to find all 12 messages, carefully painted by our residents, will receive a lovely gift.

Look forward to seeing your lovely photos.

Virtual Speed Quiz

Fountains entered “Team Fountains” in AgeUk SpeedQuiz via Zoom. Our Team was made up of 4 and we were grateful for Doreen being the Captain!

We ordered Pizza and washed it down with a few glasses of red wine.

We didn’t quite achieve the fastest response but we did achieve a 3rd fastest – thanks to Doreen’s extensive knowledge.

There were approx. 15 teams made up of varying numbers and Fountains came a respectable 7th.

It was a really fun evening and our residents said they had a great time so we will definitely be entering again.

It cost £10 which went towards a great cause - AgeUkSolihull.

Look out for the next one, support a great cause and have some fun.

National Relaxation Day

Fountains celebrated National Relaxation Day with pamper treats and a spa-like experience in our cinema room. With relaxing music, candles and rose petals scattered, it was a scene of real tranquillity.

Our residents enjoyed a full pamper session starting with re-styles in the hair salon. We are extremely lucky to have multi talented care staff. Chloe, our senior carer is also a qualified hairdresser so she was able to work her magic and give our residents a make over with her scissors!  Manicures and hand massages followed whilst enjoying a relaxing foot spa.

Our residents were definitely relaxed and looking great by the end of National Relaxation Day.

Virtual Chatty Café

Connecting with the community is so important to us at Fountains and in the current climate this has to be achieved a little differently

Today we joined the “chatty café scheme” in a virtual way.

If you haven’t heard about this scheme it is an initiative designed to encourage conversations between customers at designated “chatter and natter” tables. What a great idea!

Chatty café quickly adapted to the panademic and a Virtual Chatty Cafe has been on Zoom since the beginning of lockdown and they hold 3 per week.  Each session lasts 30 minutes there is around 6 to 10 people per chat.  The virtual groups have been kept small to emulate an actual Chatter & Natter table as much as possible.  For more information email jenny@thechattycafescheme.co.uk

We had a lovely time and our resident found it all very intriguing.

Give it a go!

Outdoor adventures

With all this wonderful weather our residents have been outside in our stunning grounds, making the most of the fresh air and the sunshine.

With low rise walkways around the perimeter of the home, our residents are encouraged to exercise daily, maintain their mobility and benefit from walking in the fresh air.

As well as walks, admiring the flowers and watching the bees and butterflies, more colour was added to the raised beds and lots of watering took place.

Long may this warm weather continue.
