Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

A Trip to the Beauty Salon

Today we got on the road and visited one of our local beauty salons, The Style Lounge, for a professional pampering session.

The lovely staff has welcomed us with freshly made coffee and a cake, then rolled up the sleeves and worked tremendously hard to make this morning special for the ladies form Glenroyd Care Home.

There was plenty of laughter and joy throughout the morning. The ladies enjoyed spending time with a very talented and kind staff members who polished their nails and treated with a hand massage, feet massage and a hair set.

Virtual Book Club

We had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

Historic Royal Palaces

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Knit & Natter Club

Residents in Glenroyd Care Home have been enjoying some knitting and a little cup of tea with a cake thanks to their weekly Knit and Natter club.

Each Resident has picked their own wool and needles. They have chosen to knit a blanket, so they are each knitting squares. The blanket they make will go to a homeless charity.

Everyone has been chatting and enjoying the club, as many of the members have knitted before.

Irene, one of the residents, commented, “I love being able to knit again after so many years.”

Valentine's Day Celebrations

Love is most definitely in the air this Valentine's Day as residents at Glenroyd Care Home celebrated the most romantic day of the year.

Today we have been busy helping residents to make Valentine's cards, flower arrangements, heart shaped cookies and decorations for our home and we have all enjoyed sharing stories about the love in our lives, both past and present.

We celebrated in style by having a Valentine’s party this afternoon with live music entertainment and themed refreshments prepared by our talented catering team.

National Pizza Day

Today we celebrated National Pizza Day with Residents and staff joining forces to make their very own pizzas.

The Residents started the day by mixing their doughs and letting them sit whilst they focused on choosing the base, toppings and what shape it would be during a baking session in the afternoon.

Equipped with enough dough to feed an army and plenty of tasty toppings, the residents rolled out their pizza dough and spread their bases with tomato purée, before scattering on the cheese and choosing their favourite toppings from the selection.

Once cooked and cooled and with the scent of freshly cooked pizza in the air, the residents were very excited to tuck into their delicious creations as a starter of their tea, which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
