Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

National Chocolate Day

Oh, what a marvellous day it has been at Glenroyd Care Home as our cherished residents came together to celebrate the sweetest day of the year, National Chocolate Day! Here's a glimpse into the irresistible activities that filled our day:

To kick off the morning, our residents hosted a chocolate-themed baking club, with the delightful help of the children who visited today. Together, they mixed, stirred, and baked an array of heavenly chocolate treats. Laughter and excitement filled the air as generations came together to create something delicious and memorable.

After the baking adventure, our residents delighted in the fresh air and beauty of our garden. Surrounded by vibrant flowers and serene greenery, they enjoyed the gentle breeze, soaking in the tranquillity of nature. It was the perfect setting to relax, chat, and share stories, creating precious bonds along the way.

But the chocolate indulgence didn't stop there! In the afternoon, our residents and the delightful children joined together in the garden once more, this time to savour a delightful selection of chocolates and enjoy hot chocolate. With activity books in hand, everyone immersed themselves in the joy of reading, snacking, and sharing quality time together. The rich flavours of chocolate were perfectly complemented by the laughter and smiles that filled the air.

Ice, ice baby for Glenroyd Residents

To celebrate National Ice Cream Day on July 19, staff and residents at Barchester’s Glenroyd care home in Blackpool were treated to a virtual talk, interactive quiz and delicious ice cream tasting session from Walls Marketing Manager, Sue Carruthers – Sue works in Unilever’s Away from Home team, which supports the care sector.

Residents reminisced about their favourite ice creams and were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, and an ice-cream tasting session.

National Ice Cream Day

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a sing-along to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.

A dog is for life

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

Baking and Gentle Exercise

Today our residents got their aprons on and enjoyed some baking! There were some delicious scones and a scrumptious banana loaf. They had a great time, with plenty of laughs and chatter as they shared their most cherished baking techniques.

After all of that hard work in the kitchen, it was time for a cup of tea and a spot of relaxation in the garden. Residents enjoyed some fresh air and sunshine while they sipped on their tea, chatting and catching up with each other.

To finish off their lovely day, in the afternoon the residents had a seated gentle exercise session in the garden that combined the use of stretch bands and yoga poses in honour of National Yoga Day. It was a great way to get the blood flowing and to focus on their breathing and posture.

Well done to all residents at Glenroyd Care Home for their enthusiasm and energetic spirit. It's heart-warming to see everyone enjoying themselves and having a lovely time together.

Volleyball Game

Our residents had a wonderful time playing a seated in chair volleyball game in the garden today. It was beautiful to see everyone laughing, having a good time and keeping active with this fun physical activity.

It is so important for our residents to be as active as possible, and seeing the smiles on their faces after the game was so heart-warming.

We are so proud of our residents and are happy to keep making their life fun and fulfilled with many more exciting activities to come.
