Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Life at Glenroyd Care Home

Movement to music

Today we’ve enjoyed movement therapy group. This particular type of activity explores movement and interaction, accompanied by music to help reduce stress and encourage responses through action.

Our Residents who participated in the session had a great time playing balloon games and there was a positive energy in the room after all the singing, dancing and music. All the Residents said how much they enjoyed the session and are looking forward to the next one.

Story time

This afternoon at Glenroyd we enjoyed a lovely visit from our nursery friend’s.  As our friends will be starting ‘BIG SCHOOL’ in September, they have all been to their new schools to meet their new teacher.

Today the children told us all about their ‘First Day’. It was lovely to see the excitement and joy on the children’s faces whilst telling us all about their day. But not only did we get to hear about the children’s first day, our lovely residents also shared their memories from their first day at school to!

Today was the last visit we would have from our friends before they leave pre-school to start their journey at big school. So, from all your friends here at Glenroyd, we wish you all the best of luck for September and thank you so much for coming to visit us and making such wonderful memories that we will treasure forever.

Hawaiian Summer Party

What a lovely afternoon we’ve had today with our beloved Residents! Glenroyd Care Home hosted a themed summer garden party filled with a lot of fun, beautiful music performed by entertainer Rachel who knows how to get people dancing and Hawaiian fruit trays prepared by catering team.

Tiki bar was very occupied by serving cocktails to our Residents that like to celebrate in style. We also combined our party with National Junk Food Day, and we treated our Residents with pizzas delivered by Dominoes. After such a massive heatwave hitting United Kingdom, it was just nice to spend some time out in the garden in perfect weather condition. It’s only a sneak pick from today as there is a video coming soon which will be available on our Facebook page so, please stay tuned!

Eurovision song contest

This afternoon our residents and staff have enjoyed taking part in the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ with some of our sister homes within the northwest.

Our chosen song was Neil Diamond- Sweet Caroline, as Everyone knows that song! We enjoyed getting up dancing and singing.

It was great to have so much fun via zoom and to enjoy the afternoon with the other homes and their residents and staff.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the other homes for such a great afternoon. Our residents and staff here at Glenroyd certainly enjoyed themselves.

Golden anniversary celebrations

The 50th anniversary is represented by gold which promotes good health and success. A half century together is a long time, it’s a long time for a person on their own to be aged 50 but to have 50 years with another person shows real love, commitment, and strength.

Today we’ve had a pleasure to be a part of this magnificent celebration. Julie and Keith have spent that special day with family and closest friends. There was a beautiful speech presented by family friend that brought so many beautiful memories cherished together and made everyone emotional.

May you celebrate every day together the way you have celebrated today.  Happy GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY from everyone at Glenroyd!
