Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Blackpool Illuminations

We recently had the pleasure of taking our wonderful residents on a delightful outing to the Blackpool Illuminations. Joined by family members and our furry friend, Coco, it was an evening brimming with laughter and lasting memories.

Our adventure began at the iconic Blackpool Tower, where we enjoyed the spectacular Lightpool event. We then strolled along the promenade, taking in the dazzling displays. The night finished with drinks and snacks at the Albert and the Lion, followed by a scenic drive through the promenade to admire more beautiful lights.

Later in the week, excitement escalated as we attended the much-anticipated Fireworks Championship. Finland's display was nothing short of breath-taking! Our amazing catering team prepared a delicious supper, and residents sipped wine while sharing fond memories of past visits. The fireworks were a stunning finale, and the joy was contagious as we drove through the illuminated promenade once more.

Kite Festival

Our residents had a fantastic day out at the Kite Festival in St Anne’s. We kicked off the day with a lovely walk by the beach, taking in the stunning views and watching the colourful kites dance in the sky.

Our next stop was the charming St Anne’s Pier, where we enjoyed a lovely coffee break. It was delightful to hear stories from our residents about their visits to the pier in the past, all while enjoying an even better view of the kites this time around.

The day wouldn’t be complete without some fun in the arcades! Our residents had a blast winning prizes and enjoying the lively atmosphere.

The weather was perfect, making the day even more enjoyable. It was truly a day filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories for all.

Roald Dahl Day

It was a magical day at Glenroyd as we celebrated Roald Dahl Day with a Willy Wonka and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - themed afternoon!

Our residents were all smiles as they indulged in a delicious spread of cupcakes and chocolate treats. It was truly a sweet celebration for everyone!

The afternoon was filled with laughter as our residents reminisced about their favourite Roald Dahl books. A fun quiz put their literary knowledge to the test, and everyone enjoyed sharing their favourite stories.

A special guest, Oompa Loompa, made a memorable visit! Greeted with warmth and enthusiasm, she even received some kisses from our wonderful residents. She made her way around the home, delivering chocolate treats and spreading joy to everyone in their rooms.

Coffee with a Coppa

Our residents enjoyed "Coffee with a Coppa" alongside Neighbourhood Officers PC Danny and PCSO Colin from Blackpool Police.

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the officers' daily routines, which can be quite unpredictable at times. Our residents shared their lifetime stories and expressed their gratitude for the officers' dedication to keeping our community safe.

A special highlight was when residents got to play officers for a few moments, hopping into the police car with Officer Ena and Officer Betty leading the charge!

Thank you, officers, for your time and commitment. Your service is truly appreciated!

Wedding Day Magic

What a truly touching day we had at Glenroyd as our beloved resident, Jean, experienced the joy of watching her granddaughter Amy's wedding live on TV. Although Jean couldn't physically be at the ceremony, we were determined to make this moment as special as possible. Surrounded by her friends, Jean was able to share in the love and celebration from afar.

Our team worked hard to recreate the wedding atmosphere in the lounge. From the colour scheme to the carefully prepared buffet, every detail was designed to reflect the beauty of Amy and Dave's big day. Our talented catering team prepared a menu that matched the wedding feast, earning compliments from everyone present.

Jean's family added their own personal touch, including a beautifully crafted buttonhole and a personalised wedding place card, making Jean feel even closer to the event. She was emotional and overjoyed watching Amy and Dave exchange vows. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with smiles and celebration.

Dog Show Competition

What a pawsitively wonderful National Dog Day we had at Glenroyd! We celebrated in style with our annual dog show competition, complete with a lovely garden buffet filled with sweet treats for our human guests and tasty snacks for our four-legged friends.

With plenty of attendees, our residents had an amazing time cheering on the contestants. Our judges had the tough job of selecting the best dogs in each category: prettiest bitch, most handsome dog, best trick, waggiest tail, and the dog the judges want to take home. Bob The Dog truly stole the show with his charming presence!

Congratulations to all the winners in each category! Thank you to everyone who joined us for this wonderful afternoon of community love.
