Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

World Fireworks Championships

Despite the not-so-great weather, we didn't let it dampen our spirits. We all hopped on the minibus and enjoyed watching the fireworks championship together!

To make the experience even more delightful, we decided to treat ourselves to some classic fish and chips. There's nothing quite like indulging in this traditional dish while being surrounded by the calming sound of crashing waves at the seaside.

The residents truly embraced the magic of the fireworks display, and their joy was infectious. Their smiles were as bright as the colours bursting in the night sky. It was heart-warming to witness their enthusiasm and happiness throughout the evening.

We were all in agreement that it was indeed a great evening filled with laughter, awe, and a sense of togetherness. These shared experiences remind us of the importance of creating and cherishing meaningful moments with loved ones, whether they be family, friends, or our Glenroyd Care Home community.

Fun Activities with Carers

Our incredible residents had a blast participating in some fun-filled activities with our lovely carers - Debbie, Natalie, Donna and Chloe!

First up, we brought the "Basket Head Hoop Ball" game right into the residents' bedrooms! Laughter filled the air as Chloe wore basket on her head and the residents tried their best to aim and throw balls into hoops. The cosy atmosphere and the residents' enthusiasm made this game an absolute hit!

Next, we transformed the bedrooms into a lively carnival with the "Bin Bag Toss" game! Our residents showcased their aiming skills by tossing colourful beanbags into the bin, scoring points with each successful throw. The competitive spirit was alive as the residents cheered each other on, creating a vibrant atmosphere within their personal spaces!

Therapy Pony Visit

What a delightful afternoon it has been at Glenroyd Care Home! Our lovely residents were overjoyed to be visited by our special guests, Delilah, the miniature Shetland pony, and her trusty companion, Ginny, from Wellness Therapy Pony.

The atmosphere was filled with happiness and excitement as Delilah trotted her way into the hearts of our residents. Gleeful smiles and laughter filled the air as they interacted with this adorable therapy pony.

Delilah, with her gentle demeanour and kind eyes, worked her magic, spreading love and joy to each and every resident. The therapeutic benefits of animal-assisted therapy were evident, as the residents experienced a boost in their mood and a sense of comfort and companionship.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Wellness Therapy Pony for this incredible afternoon. Your dedication in providing such meaningful experiences to our residents is truly commendable. The kindness and love that Delilah and Ginny bring is priceless, and we are grateful for the positive impact they have made on the lives of our beloved residents.

Historic Royal Palaces

What a fantastic time we had during our special virtual sensory storytelling event! Our residents were absolutely delighted as Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces took us on a mesmerising journey through Hampton Court's rich collection.

The focus of the event was the captivating Georgian fashion and the opulent palace life. Jon's expertise and passion for art shone through as he shared fascinating stories and insights with us. It was an incredible experience that transported us back in time!

To make the event even more special, we decided to add a touch of colour. We encouraged our lovely ladies to wear something pink, to match the theme of the occasion. And oh, they looked absolutely radiant and elegant in their pink attire! It was a charming sight that added a sense of unity and excitement to the event.

As our residents immersed themselves in the virtual experience, their senses were further indulged with aromatic hot beverages and scrumptious treats. It was a sensory delight that enhanced the overall enjoyment and made it an experience to remember.

Friday Fun

The residents enjoyed an incredible sing-along session with Alan from Oomph on Demand. The conservatory was filled with joy as we sang along to our favourite tunes, tapping our feet and even moving to the music! A special shout out to our lovely nurse Angie, who’s voice echoed throughout the entire room, adding an extra touch of magic to our music-filled afternoon.

After the sing-along, we all indulged in some well-deserved cups of tea, coffee, and delicious refreshments. It was the perfect opportunity to relax, chat away, and enjoy each other's company. The conservatory was abuzz with laughter and conversation as we flipped through magazines, sharing stories and catching up on the latest news.

Friday afternoons are all about having fun, connecting with one another, and creating beautiful memories. We can't wait for our next Friday fun session!
