Activities at Hampton Grove Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Enjoying a Spot of Gardening in the Sun

What's the old saying 'if you want a job doing well, do it yourself'.

Well this week our residents took to the garden and were determined to thin down the branches of a tree which has been blocking all the light into their dining room.

After checking for nesting birds, resident Mrs Monaghan with the support of Debs from our activities team and some sturdy garden tools they achieved their goal and the sun now floods through!

They worked hard with the watering can, feeding our planters and removing those pesky weeds before settling down for a well earned cuppa.

Well done ladies.

Georgina Awarded for 10 Years Long Service

A much loved Kitchen Assistant within the Hospitality Team at Hampton Grove Care Home in Peterborough has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.

Georgina Anderson started working here at Hampton Grove care home on 13th September 2011 and has been a key member of the hospitality team, supporting our residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Fresh out of college, Georgina applied for a role as a kitchen assistant after obtaining a level 2 NVQ in hospitality and catering as well as a food hygiene certificate. She had heard about the job from a friend who already worked here. Georgina is hard working and extremely motivated, she always keeps up with regular training and is often receiving praise from staff and residents. Georgina’s work experience as a kitchen aid in the Salvation Army has been extremely beneficial to her role here and proved how diligent she is.

Since starting at Barchester 10 years ago Georgina has taken on multiple roles in the home from being in laundry, to a hostess and back to the kitchen, demonstrating her flexibility and versatility. She has since been in the kitchen for 6 years where she is able to make a difference to the resident’s lives on a daily basis by providing the best nutritional care. Her role consists of preparing food, washing up and providing residents with handmade birthday cakes.

Georgina has always been a friendly face in the home since she started 10 years ago and is an approachable part of our community. For Georgina her best achievement in the job is when residents come to her personally to thank her or tell her they’ve enjoyed her meals, for her it shows how her job is improving the lives of our residents and it demonstrates how even the littlest of actions can make a big difference.

At 32 Georgina wants to continue working with us here and would even like to try some different roles such as working on the activities team, where she can gain even more engagement with the residents. She has overcome many obstacles in her time at Hampton Grove, one of which being her learning disability. After being told she didn’t have to work Georgina was determined to prove that having a disability shouldn’t stop you from achieving any aspiration. Georgina had always wanted to work with children or the elderly and has demonstrated that learning disabilities are not an obstacle to success. Hampton Grove have been supportive with her endeavours by providing materials to aid her learning and help her overcome any challenges.

Georgina’s story is one of inspiration and as a thank you for her 10 years of brilliant service she was gifted a gold Barchester pin, a £250 voucher and a bouquet of flowers by the home manager; Krzysztof Krzysztofiak. Her family, friends and community here at Hampton Grove care home are all extremely proud of her and her achievements.

Jane McFarlane, Employee Services Director at Barchester said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted Georgina has achieved this milestone. Barchester Healthcare love to recognise hard work and dedication, employees like Georgina ensure our residents are provided with a happy place to live.”

Visit from 'Man's Best Friend'

Some early Dog Show contenders joined the residents of Hampton Grove over the weekend. 'Roxy', the small brown dog belongs to Lisa our Activities Lead and 'Betsy' the pug is owned by Dan our Maintenance/Activities assistant.

Each pampered pooch went down a storm with our residents, they absolutely loved getting cuddles, and even took time to walk them around the grounds. 'Man's best friend' really does have the ability to bring so much pleasure.

ZooLab Mini-Beasts at Hampton Grove

Our residents got up close and personal with various furry creepy, crawly and multi-legged creatures this week with a visit from ZooLab

The Animal Therapy Session helps stimulate and engage whilst promoting mental wellbeing. Many of our residents (and staff) managed to overcome their fears and hold some of the amazing mini-beasts from lizards and tarantulas to the African giant millipede!

Our residents just love trying new things and learning about these fantastic animals made for a fabulous interactive afternoon.
