Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Tammy Carpenter

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Tammy, I am the Activities coordinator. I joined Hyacinth House as one of the Night Seniors, I am so happy and proud to be part of the Hyacinth team.  All my colleagues are so passionate about our journey together and what we are doing, we all share the Barchester values and keep them at the forefront of our minds.

My journey into the Care Sector started more than 6 years ago, initially working as Agency to see if I was the right fit for care work. I instantly fell in love with all aspects of care and getting the chance to work in difference places, gaining experience and knowledge, working and caring for a variety of people in their homes and in a residential/dementia care setting.  I've learnt so much and I completed my NVQ Level 3  and continue to pursue further qualifications.

I enjoy getting to know our residents, learning about them as an individual; their likes, dislikes, and their lives outside the home.  I am very passionate about improving the lives of those I support and the importance of continuing their interests.

In my personal life I am very active, with family life and with two Cocker Spaniels, there is never a dull moment. With a passion for adventure and hiking, with water sports thrown in and always up for trying something new.  Also a keen photographer, I enjoy getting my camera out to capture moments.

I look forward to welcoming you at Hyacinth, and capturing the moments we create together.

Knoll Gardens

With the wonderful weather, we have been enjoying outdoor life. Activities Co-ordinator and staff decided to take our enthusiastic gardeners on a trip to Knoll Gardens.

Our residents had a fantastic time walking through the various themed gardens and brought more ideas and suggestions on what to introduce to our outside space at Hyacinth House.

Barney's first outing!

We had a wonderful surprise recently when little Barney popped in to see us, for an impromptu visit. Val and Ben are friends of Hyacinth House and the proud owners of baby pygmy goats, they will be training them as therapy goats to visit homes such as ours.

As they are close by and were taking Barney out for the first time they called in to us to see how he copes with new surroundings. Well there was no need to be worried he took it all in his stride, calm and confident and so well behaved surprising us all. Residents thought their eyes were deceiving them when he walked in reception, he certainly stole our hearts!

Thank you Val and Ben for visiting, we are excited to see the progress of Barney's training and future visits!

All aboard!

At Barchester, we believe in encouraging our residents to continue with their previous hobbies and interests, supporting them in whichever way we can.

Any resident coming to one of our homes is supported with completing our 'Getting to know me book' and is especially important for Tammy, our Activities Coordinator to discover and dig deeper into their pastimes and passions.

Arthur is one of our permanent residents that has relocated to the area. He has a deep love for steam trains and speaks fondly of his past family holidays, they nearly always involved a steam train journey. His daughter Sue remembers her Dad's passion too and being 'dragged' onto different trains, although secretly enjoying the journey and family time.

Inspired by Arthur's stories, we wanted to create a day to remember. A trip to enjoy the beautiful Dorset countryside, taking in the views such like Corfe Castle aboard the Swanage Steam Train. Hopping off to enjoy a picnic while taking in the view of Corfe Castle.

It was very special to see how Arthur enjoyed the day out, he hadn't been on a steam train for many years and is now looking forward to another adventure.

Keeping on the move at Hyacinth House!

Here’s a snapshot of the variety of exercises that our residents enjoy, these are designed to keep them flexible and mobile!

We’ve been focusing on muscle strength with a range of fun and engaging activities. The parachute game is an absolute favourite, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone!

We also welcome fantastic external visitors who lead dynamic armchair classes with props and music, making each session enjoyable and energising. Our residents love these classes, it’s all part of staying healthy and active!

At Hyacinth House, we’re committed to ensuring our residents maintain their flexibility and mobility, contributing to their overall well-being and quality of life.
