Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!
Tammy Carpenter
Hello, my name is Tammy, I am the Activities coordinator. I joined Hyacinth House as one of the Night Seniors, I am so happy and proud to be part of the Hyacinth team. All my colleagues are so passionate about our journey together and what we are doing, we all share the Barchester values and keep them at the forefront of our minds.
My journey into the Care Sector started more than 6 years ago, initially working as Agency to see if I was the right fit for care work. I instantly fell in love with all aspects of care and getting the chance to work in difference places, gaining experience and knowledge, working and caring for a variety of people in their homes and in a residential/dementia care setting. I've learnt so much and I completed my NVQ Level 3 and continue to pursue further qualifications.
I enjoy getting to know our residents, learning about them as an individual; their likes, dislikes, and their lives outside the home. I am very passionate about improving the lives of those I support and the importance of continuing their interests.
In my personal life I am very active, with family life and with two Cocker Spaniels, there is never a dull moment. With a passion for adventure and hiking, with water sports thrown in and always up for trying something new. Also a keen photographer, I enjoy getting my camera out to capture moments.
I look forward to welcoming you at Hyacinth, and capturing the moments we create together.

Life at Hyacinth House Care Home
Knitting for a Cause: Hyacinth House Poppy Project
One of our popular activities is knitting club, held every Thursday morning. Our talented Knitters and non-knitters, come together not only to create, but to socialise and enjoy each other's company.
After knitting flowers for the Folk festival, the club have chosen to take on a meaningful project close to all their hearts - they have chosen to knit poppies in honour of Remembrance Sunday. We found the perfect pattern and the group is working hard to craft as many poppies as possible. These beautiful creations will be made into badges and sold, all donations will be paid to support the Royal British Legion.
Hats off to their dedication and we can't wait to see these being worn with pride. Keep an eye out for more updates on when they are available to purchase.
If you'd like to join us for this knitting social please get in touch.
Fur, Cuddles & Therapy!
We feel incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful neighbours. As part of the community we are building, they have truly become part of the Hyacinth wider family.
We are always thrilled to welcome Bilbo and Barney from Penny's Orchard into our home. These adorable six-month-old pygmy goats have come a long way! Thanks to Val and Ben, who eagerly share their knowledge, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing their training and transformation over the past few months. They've grown into confident, loving animals. They’ve become so comfortable in our surroundings that they sunbathe in the garden. They even find the laps of residents comfortable enough to relax and nap on and adore being brushed - what a special experience!
It’s been an honor to be part of Bilbo and Barney’s journey as they become therapy animals. We can’t wait to see how they continue to grow and develop in their roles during future visits!
Bingo Bonanza!
Our residents love some healthy competition, so naturally our weekly bingo games are always a hit with residents and staff alike.
From sweet treats to special surprises, there's always something exciting to win. As always we shared stories with each other and enjoyed some tasty homemade snacks, we don’t think there’s any better way to spend our Thursday afternoons!
Getting out and about!
Living in such a lovely area our residents love to take advantage of trips out.
One of their firm favourites is Wimborne market in the Allendale Community Centre. With a variety of stalls available our residents love to spend time browsing (and buying!) and who else did they meet there at the Hyacinth House stall? Our very own Home Services Advisor Jane Shanahan.
After all of that shopping, our residents enjoyed a cup of tea and slice of cake at a local cafe. What a wonderful morning spent together.
Hyacinth House turns one!
We celebrated our first year in the community with a Jubilant Barbeque Party!
Residents, staff and guests enjoyed live music from Mark Busell and a later performance by Nigel Revill while Chris Howat amazed us with his close-up magic as he mingled amongst guests. Shout out to Marcin from The Rolling Bars for keeping the drinks flowing!
Special thanks to Town Mayor Terry Cordery for joining us and to Colin and Ruth Weston. Colin, played a key role in our official opening of the care home last year during his role as High Sheriff of Dorset, we were delighted to welcome them back for the anniversary.
General Manager, Kamila Gagala said: It’s been a whirlwind of a year with so many wonderful achievements, we are excited for the next one! We have provided a caring home for our residents.. The day not only enables us to celebrate and recognise the hard work of the staff, but it's also an opportunity to thank the residents, their relatives and friends who have made Hyacinth House such a loving home.”
Back to School Wisdom from our Residents
As the school year starts soon, our residents were asked what they would like say in a message for our local school children to help kick off the term.
Check out the photos we’ve taken of their advice!
