Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!
Tammy Carpenter
Hello, my name is Tammy, I am the Activities coordinator. I joined Hyacinth House as one of the Night Seniors, I am so happy and proud to be part of the Hyacinth team. All my colleagues are so passionate about our journey together and what we are doing, we all share the Barchester values and keep them at the forefront of our minds.
My journey into the Care Sector started more than 6 years ago, initially working as Agency to see if I was the right fit for care work. I instantly fell in love with all aspects of care and getting the chance to work in difference places, gaining experience and knowledge, working and caring for a variety of people in their homes and in a residential/dementia care setting. I've learnt so much and I completed my NVQ Level 3 and continue to pursue further qualifications.
I enjoy getting to know our residents, learning about them as an individual; their likes, dislikes, and their lives outside the home. I am very passionate about improving the lives of those I support and the importance of continuing their interests.
In my personal life I am very active, with family life and with two Cocker Spaniels, there is never a dull moment. With a passion for adventure and hiking, with water sports thrown in and always up for trying something new. Also a keen photographer, I enjoy getting my camera out to capture moments.
I look forward to welcoming you at Hyacinth, and capturing the moments we create together.

Life at Hyacinth House Care Home
Anyone else tired of all this rain?
We sure are at Hyacinth House, but it won’t stop us from getting out and about!
We decided to brave the weather and took a little drive around Poole, making our way towards Poole Park, and just as we sat down with a nice cup of tea, the skies cleared!
We watched the birds splashing around in the puddles while enjoying some heart-warming stories from Phyllis about her teenage adventures in the park. What a beautiful way to spend a rainy morning!
With the festive season fast approaching...
We decided to take a trip to Haskins Garden Centre, Ferndown to check out their amazing Christmas displays.
Wow, they did not disappoint again this year! So many fabulous decorations to admire, giving us all kinds of inspiration for how we’d love to see Hyacinth decorated for the holidays.
We spent a good couple of hours strolling around, chatting about past Christmas trees, decorations, and our favourite holiday traditions. Now we’re even more excited for this year’s Christmas celebrations!
A trip down Memory Lane, made for a perfect morning!
For our Sunday trip out, we decided to take a little trip down memory lane and went for a drive through the beautiful New Forest, passing through Burley and around Brockenhurst. The autumnal colours on display were stunning!
James shared stories about his dad who was born in Burley, James loved to play on the cricket pitch as a child. Gwen took us back to her childhood as we passed through Brockenhurst and saw her 'Granny's' Cottage by the river in which she used to play. Jan chimed in with her fun memories of her Sunday School trips to the forest.
We made a stop to enjoy a cup of tea and just soaked in the views around us, with plenty of animals to spot. It was such a special morning listening to the memories, filled with warmth and laughter, a reminder that often the best trips are the ones that take you through memorable places.
A fabulous morning of creativity and fun!
We let our imaginations run wild as we decorated glass tumblers to create a candle holder to reflect light.
From patterns to garden designs, everyone put their own personal touch to their creations. It was a real joy to see their creative sides shine, even the staff found themselves taking part.
What talented residents we have!
The show must go on!
What a wonderful night we had with a few of our residents, they share a love for the theatre, so we set out to find a show they’d enjoy and we struck gold.
The Barrington Centre in Ferndown was putting on an amateur production of Annie and WOW – what a splendid show it was! The performermance was absolutely fantastic. The whole night was filled with laughter and light-hearted fun.
On our journey home the mini bus was filled with happy chatter and discussions on what shows they'd like to see next.
Game on!
With the days drawing in and the weather turning a bit gloomy, there's no better way to spend time with friends and family.
From playing your cards right to word games and the classic Monopoly, our residents are always ready to challenge the staff and each other! We've got a few Scrabble masterminds who'll really get your brain working, and some savvy buyers snagging all the properties in Monopoly.
We love this time together, chatting, bonding, and enjoying a little friendly competition along the way!
