Activities at Longueville Court Care Home

Our activities coordinators are committed to organising a variety of activities that reflect the interests and capabilities for everybody we support ensuring a person centred approach.

The team have a flexible approach to our programme and we are constantly reviewing and updating our programmes to ensure we cater for everyone's needs and varied abilities.

The activities programme includes regular trips utilising the homes minibus, these include a number of destinations of local interest. We are particularly proud of the relationship we have built with Peterborough Sailability. This registered charity offers the opportunities to those with restricted mobility to enjoy the thrill of sailing on the open water and the sense of independence that brings in specially adapted boats.

Involvement in the local community is something that the whole team are very passionate about and we provide regular visits to a number of different facilities including local schools and churches. These activities also extend too visits from "Pat dogs" and local entertainers to aid in our ongoing quest to give each individual as much support and stimulation as they require.

Life at Longueville Court Care Home

Getting Crafty

We enjoyed welcoming local childminder and preschool children to Longueville Court to get messy with some arts and crafts. We decorated poppies for our Remembrance Day display, enjoyed a sing along and finished our morning off with a story and a nice drink and biscuits.

Volunteer of the Year

Local man Rory Dunne was recently crowned the national winner in the Volunteer of the Year category at the 2019 Barchester Care Awards on 3rd October, for his work and time spent at Longueville Court.

Judge for the award, Sue Sheath, Director of Care, Risk and Compliance, said of Rory that “Rory volunteers at the home for 1 day per week and has been doing so for 3 years.  He suffered a brain haemorrhage 10 years ago and after months of rehab had to learn to walk again twice!  During his time in hospital Rory realised how easy it was to be lonely in a healthcare setting and this inspired him to start volunteering when he was well enough to do so.  He now runs the weekly Scrabble group and helps with resident trips and fundraising events.  Head of Activities at the home Jessica Porter says ‘his really upbeat personality makes our residents’ smiles even bigger’. Rory has been a joy to meet and get to know, and it is nothing short of a pleasure to present him with this award.”

Margery Dino, General Manager at Longueville Court said: “Our care home is like a family and Rory is a part of that family, loved and valued by everyone. It takes a special kind of person to give up so much of their time to help others and we are lucky to have such a fantastic volunteer.”

Classical Reflection Duo

Classical Reflection Duo

We had a lovely evening entertainment with Classical Reflection duo Hannah and Naomi, who recently sang at our local church. We enjoyed listening to well-known songs such as 'Time to Say Goodbye' and 'You Raise Me Up', we finished the evening off with a lovely glass of wine.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Residents and staff celebrated Roald Dahl day this year on the 13th September. We hosted  a number of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed events on the day so everyone could remember the great man himself.

The staff dressed up as their favourite characters, and we had a morning of fun and games including Oompa Loompa skittles, quizzes and word searches. The afternoon included some sweets and treats from the Wonga Wagon, including chocolate river milk and fizzy lifting drink.

Sea’s The Day , Sea’s The Day

Sea’s The Day

We had a lovely day hosting our very own seaside reminiscence garden party which we named “Sea’s The Day”. The sun shone all day and we all helped decorate the garden in preparation for the events.

We enjoyed chips out of newspaper cones, an ice cream with a flake and lots of seaside themed antics and songs. It was a wonderful day and one we will definitely be looking forward to repeating again next year.

Celebrating 75 Years

Celebrating 75 Years

Doris and Les, both 97, met whilst holidaying in Scarborough with their parents in 1940, when they were just 18 years old.

The couple have two children, and have stated that the secret to a long and happy marriage is the fact that they are complete opposites, and opposites attract. They married on 12th August 1944.

Family and friends came to Longueville Court to celebrate the couple’s special anniversary with staff and residents. We arranged a garden party with live music and a buffet.
