Activities at Silverbirch House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Thorp

Activities coordinator

My name is Joanne or Jo to all my friends and colleagues. I cannot put into words how excited I am to be working as a part of the Silverbirch House family. I have worked for the past 27 years in education and social care and loved every minute. (yes, I am 51 and looking so young). I have brought up two fantastic children, both autistic, who are now young adults.
My hobbies are yoga, knitting, board games, exploring outdoors and retaining my passion for learning something every day, As I promised my dad as he lived his life to the full -  I would never lose my sense of wonder. For your loved ones as one door closes, let them come and enjoy the wonders as another door opens. The residents are the reason I get up in the morning and cannot sleep at night – as I said “far too exciting for words”

Aldershot Military Museum

We had a fantastic day out with our Silverbirch House residents Gilly, Robert, Nick, and Frank! 🎉 We visited the Aldershot Military Museum, which is housed in the last surviving brick-built barrack blocks in Aldershot. The museum brought history to life with stories of both soldiers and civilians with both memorabilia and actual military vehicles.

Silverbirch Residents Meeting in the Sun

Thanks to the amazing weather today, our residents' meeting was held in our beautiful courtyard!

At these monthly meetings, residents share their thoughts with all heads of department, from the chef and maintenance to community engagement, activities, senior carers, and senior management. Communication is key to any relationship and our resident's voice matters!

Today was a productive meeting in the courtyard and an enjoyable meeting, followed by delicious ice lollies, milkshakes, and smoothies.

Paddy's 95th birthday!

Yesterday at Silverbirch House, we celebrated a very special milestone.
The Bistro was filled with smiles as everyone gathered to sing happy birthday and enjoy a lovely cup of tea together. Happy 95th, Paddy! You're a valued member of our Silverbirch community and today we salute you.

Our community is made up of an eclectic group!

Just the other day, we captured the various activities happening here:
Bob was busy rebuilding Stonehenge using bourbon biscuits
Mountaineer Robert reminisced about his journeys up and down Mount Kilimanjaro
Mrs. Coxhead popped in and demonstrated her amazing knitting skills
Marion was caught blowing bubbles in the summer sun.
Robert fancied popping out for some exercise and helped us with a door drop.
And even though it’s all part of the service, Peter fancied doing his own washing up.

We love our community – it’s what makes Silverbirch House a home!

It's Coming Home (Almost)! 󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Residents at Silverbirch House gathered in the Hillard Lounge for a Euro 2024 gathering! We enjoyed a delicious buffet tea whilst cheering on the England team in their match. While the final score may not have been what we hoped for (come on lads!), the atmosphere was buoyant – as we did not lose!

The evening was topped off with a cheese and wine spread after the game which certainly helped ease the frustration.

We are getting moving here at Silverbirch House to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation! The team and residents are doing their bit to clock up 'Move Minutes' to be trotted up at the end of the week. To help boost the Foundation’s coffers, we invite family, friends, and members of the community to join us.
