Activities at Silverbirch House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Thorp

Activities coordinator

My name is Joanne or Jo to all my friends and colleagues. I cannot put into words how excited I am to be working as a part of the Silverbirch House family. I have worked for the past 27 years in education and social care and loved every minute. (yes, I am 51 and looking so young). I have brought up two fantastic children, both autistic, who are now young adults.
My hobbies are yoga, knitting, board games, exploring outdoors and retaining my passion for learning something every day, As I promised my dad as he lived his life to the full -  I would never lose my sense of wonder. For your loved ones as one door closes, let them come and enjoy the wonders as another door opens. The residents are the reason I get up in the morning and cannot sleep at night – as I said “far too exciting for words”

Life at Silverbirch House Care Home

We wanted to share the wonderful range of activities our residents enjoy here at Silverbirch House Care Home. We believe in creating an engaging environment where everyone can find something they love. We have attached a selection of pics of all sorts of activities enjoyed in recent weeks. Just this last Friday, we had a perfect example of the diverse activities available:
- Pub Outing: Some of our residents fancied a trip to the local pub
- Board Game Fun: Meanwhile, back at Silverbirch House, others gathered for a fantastic time playing board games.
Stay tuned for more updates on the wonderful activities and events we have planned. Our activities coordinators and staff strive to make each day special for our Silverbirch House family!

The Silverbirch Chicks are all grown up

Residents, staff, relatives, and visitors alike have had a great time nurturing and watching the development of The Silverbirch Chicks. They will be leaving soon, but they have definitely made their mark on us all. A big thank you to the Living Eggs organisation and the Ready to Hatch programme for making this wonderful experience possible!

Celebrating World Bee Day at Silverbirch House!

Yesterday, Silverbirch House was buzzing with excitement as we celebrated World Bee Day! We had the pleasure of welcoming local beekeeper Sergio from Bee Friends, who manages over 220 beehives, mostly in the beautiful Surrey Hills. Sergio shared insights into the incredible life of bees and the crucial role they play in our ecosystem. Staff got into the spirit by dressing in their best black and yellow outfits.
