Activities at Silverbirch House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

With previous experience working in a care home as an activities coordinator, I have developed a strong passion for enhancing the daily lives of residents through engaging and meaningful activities.

I am thrilled to join Barchester because of its outstanding reputation for providing exceptional care and a warm, community-focused environment. In my role, I will be dedicated to creating enriching programs that promote social interaction and well-being, helping both residents and their families feel supported and connected.

Dementia Disco Fun

DEMENTIA DISCO FUN

We hosted the first of many dementia discos and was delighted to have so many guests join in on the day's fun!

Our sister homes Mill Court and Worplesdon View residents also got involved on the action too.

The disco was a huge success with a fab DJ Dave set and a visit from Guildford's Deputy Mayor Jane Tyson who really got her funky moves down and joined in on the dancing.... from ABBA to BONEY M we partied hard!

The chef and hospitality team created some wonderful colourful cakes and delicious spread for all to enjoy

Squires Garden Centre Day Out

We decided to take a trip out to Squire's Garden Centres with our residents to enjoy some retail therapy, the wonderful flowers and plants and of course visit to their café for some cake and refreshments...

As you can tell it was an enjoyable day out for both carers and residents

We are delighted to be able to share the Birthday love with our residents at Silverbirch House no one is ever forgotten on their special day!

Chef made a special cake and the team all took part in wishing Richard the very best wishes for his Birthday

Don't Dine Alone

DON'T DINE ALONE

We opened our doors to a number of people from the community to help tackle loneliness. We invited anyone who would usually dine alone to join us as our guests for a meal. Diners were treated to a tasty three course meal in one of our home’s dining rooms. Guests had a chance to chat to our staff and residents, enjoy their meals accompanied by a selection of fine wines. The guests came from the local community of Guildford and after dinner, everyone enjoyed chatting to the residents and our General Manager Louise was there to greet the guests and ensure they were made to feel right at home! One of the guests Charlotte said "It was a wonderful meal and we had a fantastic time spent with everyone in the home, thank you so much for the hospitality"

Retail Therapy and some cake!

Some of our lovely residents often like to pop to the local shopping centre to do some retail therapy.

We decided to browse and shop and after reward ourselves with a coffee and some cake before returning home.

It was a wonderful day and we got back in time for our evening meal and a glass of wine to round off the day!

Audrey loves her footie and is a massive Spurs fan!

As part of making our residents 'dreams come true' we asked Audrey if she would like to go along to watch a match but she really felt that was too much for her so instead Louise our General Manager got the next best thing and presented her with a programme from this weekend's game along with some other gifts from the match!!

Audrey is clearly delighted with her gifts which in turn makes us happy too...

Making Dreams Come True

MAKING RESIDENTS DREAMS COME TRUE

We love to learn about our residents interests, hobbies and loves including any dreams that they would love to fulfil...

Our kind hearted resident Audrey mentioned to the care team that she had always wanted to visit Birdworld UK so without hesitation we set upon making it happen!

The day was just so wonderful and our residents and staff had a blast!

Did you know that the park has over 1000 birds and 180 species too??

We love to listen and learn about what our lovely residents enjoy doing or had previously been up to before joining us here.

If there is a way to accommodate to their requests our General Manager Louise will do her absolute best to make sure that we can

For example we have some very gifted musical residents here including the beautiful Sylvia who is a trained pianist.

Sylvia loves her piano and has her very own one in her room.

When Louise arranged for a larger piano to be delivered for the home Sylvia jumped at the chance to demonstrate her musical talents (with Louise the General Manager) how it should be played.

To have so many gifted residents is a bonus, from artists to musicians we are super lucky and love it!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

MACMILLAN'S COFFEE MORNING

We had an amazing coffee morning here enjoying cakes and getting together.

We wanted to support Macmillan cancer by raising awareness and money and came together to do just that!

Our chef created some delicious cup cakes and we raised money too!

Waving goodbye to Summer

GOODBYE TO SUMMER WITH OUR FUN LOVING RESIDENTS

Our fun loving residents are waving a goodbye to the warmer weather as we approach the autumn and winter months, but there's nothing to be gloomy about... we have lots of events and activities planned at Silverbirch House.

Arts and crafts, trips out in our own bus, music events, dementia discos, meals and events out locally and in our home....the list is endless

We are going to be 'shining the spotlight!' on our Silverbirch stars each week!

This also extends to our wonderful residents that bring us so much joy, and we couldn't do our jobs without them

Linda is just an absolute sweet human, always smiling and lights up every room she enters... we adore her!
