Activities at Silverbirch House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Head of Activities

With previous experience working in a care home as an activities coordinator, I have developed a strong passion for enhancing the daily lives of residents through engaging and meaningful activities.

I am thrilled to join Barchester because of its outstanding reputation for providing exceptional care and a warm, community-focused environment. In my role, I will be dedicated to creating enriching programs that promote social interaction and well-being, helping both residents and their families feel supported and connected.

Don't Dine Alone

Don't Dine Alone

DON'T DINE ALONE

We opened our doors to a number of people from the community to help tackle loneliness. We invited anyone who would usually dine alone to join us as our guests for a meal. Diners were treated to a tasty three course meal in one of our home’s dining rooms. Guests had a chance to chat to our staff and residents, enjoy their meals accompanied by a selection of fine wines. The guests came from the local community of Guildford and after dinner, everyone enjoyed chatting to the residents and our General Manager Louise was there to greet the guests and ensure they were made to feel right at home! One of the guests Charlotte said "It was a wonderful meal and we had a fantastic time spent with everyone in the home, thank you so much for the hospitality"

WISH LISTS AT SILVERBIRCH HOUSE

We love to listen and learn about what our lovely residents enjoy doing or had previously been up to before joining us here.

If there is a way to accommodate to their requests our General Manager Louise will do her absolute best to make sure that we can

For example we have some very gifted musical residents here including the beautiful Sylvia who is a trained pianist.

Sylvia loves her piano and has her very own one in her room.

When Louise arranged for a larger piano to be delivered for the home Sylvia jumped at the chance to demonstrate her musical talents (with Louise the General Manager) how it should be played.

To have so many gifted residents is a bonus, from artists to musicians we are super lucky and love it!

SUTTON GREEN GARDEN CENTRE - ROSIE'S TEA ROOM

We decided the rain wouldn't dampen our spirit so set off to Sutton Garden Centre to visit the most adorable tea room 'Rosie's Tea Room'

Once there we took in all the quant and pretty little pictures and pottery plus enjoyed the delicious refreshments too.

After we strolled along the garden centre and did some retail therapy (rude not to!)

To end the visit we then popped into 'Dr Doolittle's' pet shop to get a glimpse of some of the reptiles, pets and even snakes.... a varied kind of outing one could say but so much fun! We just love days out like these and making memories is what is is all about!

HELPING COMMUNICATIONS

We encourage our residents to keep in contact with friends and family whether they pop into visit here at the home or over the phone.

Communication is so important to keep contacts going and links to family and friends.
Sometimes some of our residents struggle with their electronic devices so we step in to lend a hand to make sure they can call whoever they need!

ACTIVITIES AND EXERCISE

We decided to play a game of ball darts and our wonderful residents really enjoyed the competition and were 'innit to winnit!'

Exercise is vital because it improves both physical and mental health, helping to boost energy and reduces stress and anxiety. We love to keep entertained with a varied selection of games that all can join in.

EDWINS GARDEN CENTRE DAY OUT

We decided to set off to Edwin's Garden Centre for the day!

Our residents enjoyed shopping and seeing the beautiful plants and flowers along with a little café stop too!

The staff are always so friendly and we will 100% be back for more retail therapy.

Dreams Come True

DREAMS COME TRUE

When our lovely resident Paddy said he would love to go to the seaside after many years of not being able to get there we decided to get out our bucket and spades and set off to Clarence Pier

We had the best time and best weather to take in the sights whilst strolling on the pier. The day went far too fast as before we knew it we were back on the bus to return in time for our evening meals but not before we sampled some ice creams (EVERYONE has to have an ice-cream at the seaside!)

WEST SURREY CYCLING COMMUNITY

We had the pleasure of a visit from West Surrey Cycling Club member Nick who gave an amazing talk on his adventures cycling along the UK and Europe.

The session was truly inspiring as Nick shared with us about his injuries and accidents, his travelling around so many incredible destinations and Nick also shared his many lycra outits to the amusement of our intrigued residents.

For some of our residents who were cyclists these stories brought back some wonderful memories, so thank you so much Nick!
