Activities at Silverbirch House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Thorp

Activities coordinator

My name is Joanne or Jo to all my friends and colleagues. I cannot put into words how excited I am to be working as a part of the Silverbirch House family. I have worked for the past 27 years in education and social care and loved every minute. (yes, I am 51 and looking so young). I have brought up two fantastic children, both autistic, who are now young adults.
My hobbies are yoga, knitting, board games, exploring outdoors and retaining my passion for learning something every day, As I promised my dad as he lived his life to the full -  I would never lose my sense of wonder. For your loved ones as one door closes, let them come and enjoy the wonders as another door opens. The residents are the reason I get up in the morning and cannot sleep at night – as I said “far too exciting for words”

Gilly has a pampering!

Check out Gilly enjoying a fabulous pampering session. She popped into town with our General manager Louise for her nails then into the Silverbirch House Hair Salon! With her hair and nails painted, she looks styled and relaxed with a glass of wine.
We love seeing our residents happy and well cared for.

Residents' Trip to Beautiful Box Hill!

We had a delightful trip to Box Hill in Surrey recently! A gap in the clouds allowed the sun to shine, making it the perfect day for Robert, Gilly, Marion and Max to enjoy the stunning views of the North Downs. All agreed it was a lovely outing filled with fresh air, beautiful scenery, and great company.

A Fun-Filled Day in the Tovey Lounge!

Yesterday the Tovey Lounge here at Silverbirch House Care Home was a hive of activity! We went back to back kicking things off with Barchester's National Bingo Bonanza, dabbing our way to a full house. Right after, we transitioned straight into a fantastic ukulele sing-along with the local band, Uke an' Sing.

Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun and made the day so memorable.
Stay tuned for more exciting events!
