Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Christmas Wine and Cheese

The Waterside Court Cheese and Wine Evening on 7th December was a hit with our residents and guests. With wines from Carol at Brightwell Vineyard who spoke about her business and gave us all a short history of vineyards in England.

She was joined by Louise and volunteers from the Wallingford Local Producers Market who provided a selection of pasteurized cheeses for us all to try and gave a talk about each cheesemaker and their locality.

It was such an enjoyable evening, we'll definitely be looking to host these amazing local producers again. There's nothing better than a get together over a glass of British wine and nibble of quality locally produced cheese!

Beauty Bus Brings Joy

It was a delight to introduce our wonderful residents to a new pamper session courtesy of Amanda and The Beauty Bus this week. Many of our ladies enjoyed taking a trip to the in-home beauty salon to meet with Amanda for individual consultations; manicures and pedicures.

Amanda was so accommodating, she also took time to visit residents in their rooms and provide personal pamper sessions. We're all in agreement that her service is a valuable addition to the Waterside Court life enrichment program.

Christmas Paperchains

Christmas paperchain crafting in the Waterside Court café. Dotty and Pearl were masters in the art and happy to show the gentleman just how easily it can be done! We all wondered how long the chain would get before the group ran out of looping strips?

Mr Magic Plays Tricks

In the lead up to the 'Big Day' we have lots of entertainment planned on our 'Countdown to Christmas Calendar'. Mr Magic Hat (Steve) entertained us all with his fun packed magic show. Steve's act is full of stories and visual tricks that our residents could interact with throughout.

National Elf Day

Last Friday 2nd December our staff swapped their uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia. Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia. From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, these naughty little Waterside elves were up to mischief all day... there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia!
