Activities at Waterside Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Waterside Court Care Home
Dance Creative - Brain Health
Dance Creative was founded in 2016 by Angela Conlan, Caroline Moss and Rhonda Sparrey and we had the absolute pleasure of taking part in one of their jubilant classes!
Changing lives through dance, for people living across Oxfordshire and beyond, the Dance Creative team aim to improve health and well-being by providing opportunities for people of all ages to dance together.
The residents of Waterside Court certainly enjoyed a good old boogie with the Dance Creative instructor. Prior to the Dance session we were joined by Shona Forster who provided our residents with some useful information on maintaining a healthy brain. Shona has a special interest in how lifestyle modifications may prevent or delay cognitive decline. As Shona say “You’re never too old” and looking at the group in full swing we think you’ll agree our residents are more than happy to try something new!
We all look forward to our next Dance Creative session. Check out @BarchesterWatersideCourt for full video!
Celebrating St David's Day
The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with Welsh flags and daffodil themed arts and crafts. General Manager; Clem said "It was a day to wave the Welsh Flag and dancing daffodils for our neighbouring nation - we all had a wonderful time celebrating St. David and eating lots of Welsh Cakes!”
A very special day for our residents courtesy of Sqn Ldr Tremble
We recently had a visit from the amazing Squadron Leader Darren Tremble from RAF Benson. He talked about his life and experiences in 33 Squadron.
He was scheduled to spend 30 minutes talking about his experiences but he was so generous with his time, he spoke to every resident on a one-to-one basis and addressed us all as a group too, he ended up spending more than 2 hours here at Waterside Court. It was a really special day and we are very grateful to Squadron Leader Tremble for his amazing generosity.
Burns Night Fun (and lots of wonderful Food)
This years Burns Night at Waterside Court was a huge success. Well, to be honest, we decided to make a day of it to celebrate in real style. Lunch was Haggis, Neeps and Tatties ( a bonus point if you know what a Neep is - I just had to google it ) other Menu options were available. The puddings and snacks on offer were soooooo good and most of us are still full now!
The CloseKnit band entertained us all with some jaunty Scottish songs and we all had a sing along too. At 5pm some friends and family came in and joined us for Afternoon Tea and sandwiches. Another wonderfully entertaining and life-enriching day at Waterside Court!
Dementia Cafe this Wednesday 25th January 2pm till 4pm.
A wonderful opportunity to meet and chat to people who are living with, or family members caring for those living with Dementia.
Tea, cake and sandwiches are provided as is entertainment by the wonderful CloseKnit Band who will be playing some Scottish songs to celebrate Burns night. We look forward to meeting you.
Fitness for Longevity (and of course fun)
Every week we look forward to the visit of Will Ferguson the Clinical Director of Caring Physio. Will puts us, our residents and even willing visiting family members through their paces. We stretch and move to music and there's a lot of chat, fun laughter in all our sessions. Will makes it great fun but there is of course a more clinical side to this; he is very carefully watching everyone's mobility to monitor and address any changes, even small changes in mobility, if not addressed, can lead to bigger issues. Exercise is crucial to our health and longevity. It helps to maintain and improve cardiovascular health, has been shown to improve cognitive function, improves mood, helps to increase strength and bone density, it also reduces the risk of falls, injuries and potential hospital admissions. At Waterside Court every single member of our team is committed to providing a warm, life enriching experience that supports health, fitness and wellness. Together with our incredible residents we make life fun.
